CPD-Accredited Afro Braiding Training For Damage-Free, Heat-Free Protective Styling
From first lesson to client-ready skills, explore the industry, build your portfolio, and receive a full year of ongoing guidance and support
The 12-Week Protective Braiding Certification is Afrotility's flagship professional programme. It is designed to train confident, ethical Afro hair practitioners who understand why techniques work - not just how to replicate styles.
This certification teaches the backbone of all African braiding and protective styling, combining trichological science, African hair heritage, and practical business training.
The result: braiders and stylists who can braid, protect, and style Afro and mixed-race curly hair without heat, without chemicals, and without causing cumulative damage.
You’ll learn how to prevent and spot strand dryness and tension-based damage, assess hair accurately, consult with clarity, and deliver styles that protect the hair rather than compromise it. Every lesson focuses on real-world application — tailored to your client base, whether you mostly serve Afro clients, mixed-texture clients, or a blended community.
Unlike YouTube tutorials, this programme provides personalised guidance, mentorship, monthly troubleshooting clinics, and feedback on your practical work. Once your assessments are submitted and approved, you receive a CPD-accredited certificate suitable for professional insurance — an essential requirement to operate legally and confidently in any jurisdiction.
This course is more than just training — it’s a complete foundation for building a premium Afro and mixed-race hair service business. By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:
Work confidently with a variety of hair textures and densities.
Offer professional, heat-free, protective styling that protects hair health.
Tailor your service to your market and clientele — whether you work with natural Afro hair, a largely mixed-race crowd, or a diverse client base.
Deliver a premium service that builds client trust, loyalty, and confidence.
Meet professional insurance requirements in your jurisdiction.
Access 12 months of ongoing support to grow your skills and your business.
At Afrotility, we know the frustration of courses that leave you with nothing but an attendance certificate — no real support once you’re in practice. That’s why our 12-Week Protective Styling Course is designed to give you long-term support, tailored training, and real-world results.

You've got questions. We've got answers
1. Who is this course for?
The 12-week Protective Styling Course is designed for beginners, hairdressing students, and individuals who want to start a career in hair. It’s also ideal for stylists who want to specialise in Afro and mixed-race hair and build a premium service-based business rooted in hair health and client confidence.
2. Why start with this course instead of workshops?
Workshops are perfect for stylists with some client or salon experience. But if you’re just beginning, the 12-week course gives you the solid foundation you need: the science of Afro and mixed-race hair, safe styling practices, and professional techniques that avoid damage. From here, you’ll be able to expand into other workshops with confidence.
3. What’s included in the course?
Weekly live classes (highly recommended for real-time learning and interaction).
Access to recordings of every class.
A recorded-only version option for those with connectivity challenges, in different time zones, or on a tight schedule — perfect for busy learners who still want access to professional training.
12 months of ongoing support through monthly troubleshooting calls.
Access to an exclusive community where you can ask questions and share progress.
4. What are the advantages of live classes vs recorded-only?
Live classes give you the opportunity to interact directly, ask questions in real time, and get immediate feedback. They also allow for the full immersion experience, helping you apply techniques while learning.
Recorded-only gives maximum flexibility — perfect if you work irregular hours, live in a different time zone, or face connectivity challenges. You can still request support online via messaging and submit questions ahead of monthly troubleshooting sessions, then watch the recording to receive tailored answers and guidance.
5. Will this course allow me to get insured?
Yes. The course is CPD-accredited, meaning the standard of training meets requirements for professional insurance. In every jurisdiction, insurance is essential to operate legally — and what professional would want to be without insurance? Afrotility ensures you have the credentials to protect both your clients and your business.
6. Do I get a starter kit?
If you are based in the UK and pay in full, you’ll receive a complimentary starter kit to help you begin your training. For students outside the UK, we don’t currently ship kits, but we can discuss individual requirements once you enrol. We are also working to arrange exclusive discounts with international hairdressing suppliers to support our global students.
7. How is the course delivered?
The course is delivered online with lessons released weekly during a live class and a recording available within 24hrs, allowing you to learn at a manageable pace. You’ll also have access to a private community and monthly live troubleshooting calls for continued guidance.
8. Will I get a certificate?
Yes. To qualify for certification, you’ll need to submit evidence of your work (a portfolio of your practice). This ensures your certificate reflects real skill, not just attendance — giving your clients confidence that you’re a trained professional.
9. What makes Afrotility different from other training providers?
Most courses teach generic techniques. At Afrotility, we tailor training to your market:
Work mainly with natural Afro hair? We focus there.
Serve a largely mixed-race clientele? We address that.
Have a diverse client base? We prepare you for both.
This way, your training directly meets your clients’ needs — elevating your service and helping you stand out in a crowded industry.
10. Do I need any previous experience?
No previous experience is required, but you should be either:
A hairdressing student who wants specialist Afro hair training, or
An individual who wants to start a career in hair and build a sustainable, premium service business.
11. How much support do I get?
Alongside weekly lessons, you’ll have 12 months of access to our community and monthly group calls for live troubleshooting. This means as you work with different clients — varying in density, texture, age, or health — you’ll always have expert guidance to support you.
12. How do I join?
Simply sign up online, and you’ll receive everything you need to get started.
I’m still unsure — can I speak to someone before enrolling?
Absolutely. If you have a question that isn’t covered here or you just want reassurance that this is the right training for you, send us a message on WhatsApp. We’re happy to guide you, clarify anything, and help you choose the best learning path for your goals.
